Scripture For Today:
“After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone…”
Don’t Cancel Your Prayers pt 2
We have been studying about praying according to God’s Will. And we focused in on, among other scriptures, 1 John 5:14-15 which says, “and this is the confidence that we have in HIM, that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us… and if we KNOW He has heard us, whatsoever we ask, we KNOW that WE HAVE the petition we have desired of Him.”
Yesterday, I left off with the example of YOU spitting in the face of God and calling Him a liar. For those of you that missed it, you can go back and watch it or listen to it. But let me ask you this: How do you think that would work out for you if spit in the face of God and called Him a liar in His Word – to His face?
Yeah… pack your bags son, you’re going on a trip that you will never come back from. It would not end well, would it? But yet, that is what so called Christians do every time that add that stupid little phrase, “…if it be thy will” to the end of their prayers.
If it were not for the Grace and Mercy of God – we would all be lost as can be. Sometimes, we are just to stupid to understand the Mercy of God – but there it is. Amen!
We don’t mean to do it, but by our word and by our actions, that is exactly what we are doing. We are not consciously calling God a liar, but, in effect, we are.
What if you had a financial need and asked your parents for $100. They told you they would deposit it via computer into your account right now! RIGHT NOW!
Later in the day, you call them back up and ask them for a $100 again. They said, “we sent it earlier. It’s already there.” Then you reply with “I don’t have it in my hands. I guess you don’t really love me. I can’t trust a thing you tell me. If you ever decide to love me, please send me the $100. Goodbye.”
Then you tell your spouse that your parents don’t really love you because they did not give you the $100 you asked for and that they said they would give you.
If you were smart, when your parents “Gave you their Word” and said it would be there today – you should have gotten in the car and gone to the bank and tell the banker, “give me my money!”
That would have been FAITH in the promise your parents gave you. You did not see the money. You did not see them send the money. You only had their word that they did. Amen! And you acted on their promise – in Faith – and went to the bank. And what was there waiting on you? Your $100. Amen!
There is a process in place at the bank to protect your money, too. No random person can just walk in and take money out of your account. You have to go through the established procedures to prove it is really you to get the money that, what? ALREADY belongs to you!
If you just walk into the bank and yell out, “GIVE ME THE MONEY!” - Well, that won’t end too well either, will it!
But, if you go to the bank simply on faith in the word your parents gave you…
You go into the bank and follow the procedures in place to ensure that ONLY YOU will receive the money…
It is THERE in answer to your request.
Now, put all of that in perspective of 1 John 5:14-15 again, “and this is the confidence that we have in HIM, that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us… and if we KNOW He has heard us, whatsoever we ask, we KNOW that WE HAVE the petition we have desired of Him.”
This is the confidence you have in your parents promise, that if you ask them for anything according to their willingness to provide it, they will hear you and, whatever it is you asked for, they will provide it to you and you will possess it. That’s 1 John 5:14-15 in the Brother Bob translation. Amen!
The point being, it is the same type of faith in each example. You must believe the answer each provided (your parents and God through His Word). Then, you must act on it (according to the established principles for you to receive it). Then you must RECEIVE IT. Amen!
I pray this opened your eyes to somethings today. I know I went over again today… so…
